• Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings

You know when you have that list of ingredients for a dish and there’s that ONE ingredient that just does not seem to fit it?  You know, “one of these things is not like the other”.  This is definitely one of those recipes.  We recently visited our local apple orchard and came home with an entire bag of amazing apples. Naturally the question was which yummy apple recipe should we bake first? My immediate thought was apple dumplings.  So sweet, so flavorful, good apple dumplings are crispy on the outside while soft and gooey on the inside. So what is the black sheep of the ingredients you ask? Brace yourself…. Mountain Dew. Yes.…

  • This Week’s Top 5

This week everything that surrounds me is full of fall: the colors, the smells, the sounds, the food.  What solidified the season change and made it official was our family visiting the local apple orchard which included a pumpkin patch.  As we all enjoyed the beautiful (dare I say hot?!) day at the orchard this past weekend, I started thinking about the savory meals, decor, and accessories that include fall produce such as squash, apples, and pumpkin.  Here are my Top 5 things I’m obsessing over this week. 1. The Soup Via My Recipes I was perusing through a health magazine online and came across this recipe for a Roasted Tomato and Garlic Soup.…

  • Korean Beef Bulgogi

Bul-GO-gi? BUL-go-gi? Bul-go-GI? No matter how you pronounce the name of this amazing and increasingly popular Korean meat dish, Korean beef bulgogi is extremely tasty and one of my favorite dishes to prepare when I am entertaining and looking to impress guests.  It is healthy, flavorful, and when paired with lettuce wraps becomes a fun meal to eat with a crowd. It is exciting that Korean beef bulgogi is becoming more common in many different restaurants and food establishments.  For example, I have seen bulgogi tacos on a number of menus, as well as bulgogi sushi, bulgogi bowls like the ones I have shown on the blog before, and more. Here I started with…

  • Caramel Apple Cookie Ice Cream

Fall is now upon us and what better way to celebrate than by making some Caramel Apple Cookie Ice Cream?  We just recently purchased an ice cream maker for our son’s birthday and have been trying all sorts of different combinations of treats.  The idea to try the new Caramel Apple Oreos came when eyeing the cookies on the store shelf a few days ago.  Oreo cookies, caramel, and ice cream? Yes please! Who doesn’t love ice cream with a little caramel in it?! To be honest, I was not really sure how all the flavors would come together but in the end it tasted AMAZING!  Just the right amount of sweet caramel, the…

  • This Week’s Top 5

As the temperatures begin to cool off I am seeing new products tailored to the change in season everywhere including food, decor, and of course clothes.  Here I have rounded up my top 5 things I am loving for this transition into fall. 1.  The Bootie. Octagon Wedge Bootie Via Ok, all bootie(y) jokes aside, booties seem to be the hottest shoe for the season.  They are comfortable, stylish, versatile and also keep the toes warm in the cool air.  Keep an eye out for an upcoming post dedicated to the bootie for the next Fashion Friday. 2. The Mantel. Via Sandansisal.com The change in seasons is always a great excuse to change up home decor…

  • Korean Japchae Noodles

Now that school has started and fall activities are in full swing there is nothing I like more than a simple meal to make for the family that is relatively quick and inexpensive.  A favorite dish of mine to prepare is Japchae, a Korean noodle dish that uses vegetables, sweet  potato noodles, and the option of meat. What I love about Korean Japchae Noodles is that like many other Korean dishes you can use a variety of vegetables interchangeably making this a great way to use up leftover veggies from the fridge.  Not to mention this is a very healthy meal which is always a plus for me! The kids love eating these noodles with…

  • Cold Brewed Iced Coffee

You know when you want one more jolt of energy but hot coffee sounds… well… too hot?  Not to mention I know it sounds lazy but sometimes you don’t want to take out the coffee maker, scoop the grounds, and wait… wait… wait for the coffee to brew (yes, a bit dramatic, I know).  The solution? Cold brewed iced coffee. Iced coffee is one of my favorite drinks during the summer to combat the heat.  It sounds simple to just brew some hot coffee and pour it over ice. As logical as that sounds, however, it actually creates very poor iced coffee for a couple of reasons.  One reason is that pouring a…

  • Savory Asian Oatmeal

Oatmeal.  Love it or hate it there’s no denying oatmeal is here to stay as being a staple health food.  For a long time I struggled figuring out a yummy way to prepare and eat it.  However, my sweet tooth always gave in and I would bombard it with brown sugar, butter, and more. Success for my sweet tooth! Epic fail in the health realm.  Enter my trip to Vegas a few weeks ago to visit my best friend Aiko.  She introduced me to a way to eat oatmeal I had never even thought of and has completely transformed my mornings! How I never thought to incorporate my Korean background into my oatmeal…

  • Lime Chicken Enchiladas

You know how some days you want to have your food just cook itself leaving you to sit back and relax? Well, I have come to realize that a slow cooker is about as close to that as I am going to get.  The chicken in these lime chicken enchiladas comes out so flavorful, tender, and shreddable (is that even a word?) that I purposely made too much so I could use the leftovers for quesadillas the following day. All it took to make the chicken was throwing the few ingredients in the slow cooker, turning it to high, and walking away. Beautiful! Here are the 4 ingredients for the chicken in the…

  • This Week’s Top 5

While summer feels like it is quickly slipping away, there are things I am just not ready to let go of.  Here are the top 5 things that I am loving this week and am holding on to tightly as summer is not gone yet! 1. The Summer Dress ‘Renley’ Lace Fit & Flare Dress This dress is light, airy, and a beautiful color.  As the cooler temperatures set in this could easily transition to fall with some knit tights and a sweater. 2. The Go-To Summer Food   Via MyRecipes Taking out the grill and serving up some burgers is always a summer favorite for our family.  What I love about this…
